We certainly think soand we nominate this iteration as the best there may be.
While these sandwiches should be made and served fresh, the candied bacon can be prepared in advance.
To make it ahead, bake as directed and cool completely.
Line a sheet pan with foil or parchment paper.
Arrange an oven-safe wire rack inside the pan; coat rack with cooking spray.
Arrange bacon slices evenly on prepared wire rack.
Bake at 375F until bacon is browned and crisp, about 30 minutes, rotating pan after 20 minutes.
While bacon cools, arrange tomato slices in a single layer on a layer of paper towels.
Sprinkle evenly with salt and remaining 14 teaspoon black pepper, and let stand for 10 minutes.
Spread 1 1/2 tablespoons mayonnaise onto one side of each toast slice.
If you do have any leftover BLTs, store the elements separately if possible to keep them fresh.
Reassemble the sandwich before serving.
