Sometimes the simplest recipes make the best traditions.
As far back as I can remember, Christmas always started with my grandmother’s cheese straws.
Her name was Heloise McKee, but we called her Mamau.

They appeared only on that annual occasion.
She was not an enthusiastic cook, so it wasn’t jam-packed.
They signaled that Christmas had finally arrived and the festivities had begun.
In honor of Heloise, I want to kick off this issue in the same spirit.
Beat 3 sticks of I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter!
at medium speed with a stand mixer until creamy.
Gradually add 3 jars Kraft Old English Sharp Cheddar Cheese Spread, and beat until combined.
Stir together all-purpose flour, salt, and cayenne pepper in a bowl.
Gradually add flour mixture to cheese mixture, beating on low speed until combined.
Transfer to acookie pressor a large piping bag fitted with a small star tip.
Pipe 3-inch-long strips onto 2 baking sheets lined with parchment paper, leaving 12 inch between the straws.
Bake 12 to 15 minutes until the edges are light brown.
Transfer to wire racks to cool completely, 30 minutes.
Store in an airtight container.
