Here are nine steps for getting started with frequent flyer miles:

Where do you want to go?
Probably not as good as youd like.
It always seems like an uphill battle to build (and keep) a decent amount in savings.
But what if your car breaks down, or you have a sudden medical bill?
Ask one of these companies to help…
If cuddling a koala is on your bucket list, then Delta might be a good choice.
If you simply want to visit your sister in Dallas more often, check out Southwest.
(Heres alist of the alliancesand their participating airlines, which are constantly shifting).
Did you know?
Work on paying off debt andimproving your scorebefore concerning yourself with travel rewards.
Are you going to pay your bills in full each and every month?
If the answer is no, you should avoid getting a travel rewards credit card.
Take a look at the travel goals you created and find a card that will help you achieve them.

First off, ensure youcomplete the minimum spendrequired to get the sign-up bonus.
After youve earned your bonus, continue to put every expense possible on your credit card.
Most importantly, pay your bill in full each and every month.
Remember: rewards arent worth going into debt.
Once youve had the card for a year, youll probably get hit by an annual fee.
Tip: Never close your oldest credit card account.
That doesnt mean you cant get free flights it just might take a little longer.
