Do Lily Bulbs Need Water in Winter?

Unless there are drought conditions, adding additional water can cause the bulbs to rot.

Water the planter lightly once a month if the soil is completely dry.

Bulbs planted in heavy clay soils or areas with poor drainage will rot.

Bulbs should be planted at a depth of three times their diameter with the pointy end facing up.

Add the remaining soil and water again, and top with about two inches of mulch.

This gives the bulb time to settle and begin growing roots before temperatures drop.

Be sure to mulch the freshly planted area well.
