Pour cranberry mixture into a blender.

Secure lid on blender; remove center piece to allow steam to escape.
Place a clean towel over opening.
Process until smooth, about 1 minute.
Whisk together cornstarch and remaining 1/4 cup sugar in a large bowl; whisk in eggs and egg yolk.
Gradually whisk in cranberry mixture until combined.
Continue cooking, whisking constantly, until mixture is thickened, 3 to 4 minutes.
Remove from heat; whisk in butter and vanilla extract until smooth.
Transfer cranberry mixture to a medium heatproof bowl.
