On the East Coast, longer, thinner “Elgin sticks” reign supreme.
Theyre 4.8 inches long and 1.3 inches wide.
Both clock in at 8 tablespoons and 4 ounces.
So why the shape variance?
Its time for a bit of history.
They trimmed things down, and soon, the stick concept became a hit.

In the 1920s and 1930s, the brands original butter cutters debuted.
They sliced 1/4-pound sticks into that signature East coast size, hence the Elgin sticks name that sticks today.
Today, as most dairy brands have gone national, Elgin-style sticks typically command the market.
