Everyone tells you this, but its true: Kids grow up fast.

When we say get photos we dont mean paying for professional photo sessions every season.

Raising a child is expensive enough.

The following tips will help amateur photogs take pro-level pictures of their children on any occasion.

Find the Best Location

Steinmann said amateur photographers will take the best shots outdoors.

She suggested taking photos at a park if your own backyard isnt suitable for pictures.

When children are your subjects, Steinmann said, its important to plan everything in advance.

You want to keep it quick, she said.

The worst time to photograph anybody is in the middle of the day, she said.

Another precaution: Avoid scheduling the photo session during mealtimes or nap times.

Steinmann advised avoiding fussy patterns anything with stripes or intricate designs because they may not translate well digitally.

Another thing is avoid white shirts.

They tend to be too bright and create a hot spot.

Steinmann also recommended choosing comfortable clothing for your kids so theyre not squirming or looking irritated in the photos.

Steinmann suggested turning your phone horizontally to get a more flattering shot.

Also, dont put too much distance between yourself and your subjects.

Get close, and if you feel like youre too close, get closer, she said.

Instead of stressing over getting one perfect shot, take several.

it’s possible for you to go through your camera roll later to select your favorites.

Ill take 20 versions of the same thing, Steinmann said.

Generally, the first few are the better ones.

And confirm to set your camera on portrait mode if your smartphone has that feature.

It blurs out the background and keeps the focus on the person, Steinmann said.

Recruit a Photo Assistant

When taking photos of your children, dont make it a solo effort.

Enlist your spouse or another family member to help.

She also said it can be a good idea to provide props for the photo shoot.

It gives [the children] something to hold or play with, Steinmann said.

I think its better just to keep it simple, she said.

Besides, all these filters that were using now, theyre going to look dated later.
