Keep away from heavy, compacted, poorly drained soils, whichpromote diseaseand root rot.
Amend the soil to improve drainage or use containers instead.
Never plant new tomato plants where diseased ones resided the previous year.
Rotate with plants like corn, cabbage, and broccoli, which don’t carry the same diseases.
The plants can also get top-heavy and easily blow over.
At a minimum, atomato’s potshould be 12 inches wide (or a 5 gallon pot).
